For more than five years the hotels "Verenahof", "Ochsen", "Bären" and "Staadhof" have been empty. Cleared out, behind closed shutters they decay gradually. The entire furnishings were sold, auctioned and what remained was tucked away in storage depots. Wash basins and toilets were ripped out, lamps were demounted. No bed, no table, no trunk reminds of the original functioning of the rooms.
Now, the interdisciplinary project "Hotel offen" is reviving the emptied buildings.
Over 100 rooms, stairways, hallways, bathrooms, baths, dining-halls, attics, duty rooms and kitchens are made accessible for 100 visitors per show, their stories are told, their former residents are traced and their atmospheres are captured.
