The company's founders Simon Baumann and Andreas Pfiffner met at the conservatory in Biel in 1998. Due to their enthusiasm for music, film and new medias they later enrolled to study music and media art at the Hochschule der Künste, Bern. During their studies they founded the partnership ton und bild in 2003, which later became the ton und bild GmbH.

Because of their affinity for the interface between the audio and the visual medias the two musicians and filmmakers have already realised two music-documentaries. The documentary meeting on the 2nd floor (2005, co-production SF TV) portrays the Bernese composer Giancarlo Nicolai. Switzerland's first web documentary hopemusic.ch later became the documentary film Hope Music (2007, co-production SF TV), which shows the Swiss newcomer band Pegasus' way to their first record. Hope Music was successfully broadcasted on SF1 twice and shown at the Solothurner Filmtage 2008. Also shown at the Solothurner Filmtage 2008 was Zugzwang (2007), the two filmmaker's first shortfilm.
